Clueless

Though we at Matchless try to present you with stories at once refreshingly creative and insightful, our small team can’t possibly cover ALL issues German and American. We cannot act simultaneously as guidebook; events calendar; news team; poets; connoisseurs of fine literature, art, music, and food; outdoor experts, and academic advisors—pleasing EVERYONE, our German and American readers alike. We can, however, act as liaison between you and these two worlds.

We offer ourselves, to do your research, answer your questions, and give advice. Whether you’re a local looking for the best döner in town, a future visitor hoping to make the best of your stay in Munich, or just a curious foreigner with questions about German culture—ask. (If you’re a curious German with questions about the U.S., we can help you too).

“Clueless” is Matchless Magazine’s interactive forum, where readers can contact Matchless directly and our writers research, review, and respond in a weekly article. If one of our articles sparked your interest but didn’t go deep enough, our writers would be glad to elaborate. If you’d like the skinny on what life in Munich is really like, we’ll give it to you, rather waggishly and perhaps a bit cheeky, but astute nonetheless. Our only hope is that you use “Clueless” as a tool to overcome just that state.

When I first moved to Munich, a year ago, I thought my German was pretty good. I had studied it at university and spent 6 months in Tübingen, and I thought I was reasonably well adapted to the German way of life – I now no longer panic when my food comes through the check-out faster than a Formula 1 car. But, this past year has taught me a lot of things I didn’t know about the German language (and German culture, but I’ll leave that for another time), and has made me forget a great deal I did know about the English language.
