Ucon was founded in 2001 by a group of skaters. The aim was to design modern, creative and ready-to-wear pieces of clothing. Nine years on, the German company is now big in the US and has established itself as a high-quality skate brand, combining style with functionality. Matchless caught up with founder and designer Jochen Smuda at the UCON SS10 party in Flashbox, to ask him how Ucon is progressing.

St. James’ pilgrim’s path – or the way to „Paradise“ E-mail

They’ve walked up to 800 kilometers, they suffered, they cried, they resisted icy snow-storms – but now they’re finally sitting in front of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Matchless met with four pilgrims and got a unique insight into experiences gathered from the Way of St. James.

Tradition has it that the remains of St. James are buried in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Whenever St. James’ day falls on a Sunday (25 July), the cathedral declares a Holy or Jubilee Year – and this is the case this year. The city is expecting thousands of pilgrims from all over the world.

Émilie just released her latest album "The Big Machine" in 2009. This award-winning musician talked to Matchless about her latest album as well as her work on the soundtrack to “La Marche de l'Empereur” (March of the Penguins). We also found out what she would be doing if she wouldn't be a musician and which pros and cons the internet offers her.

To understand the music of a city one has to understand its sound. Detroit has a sound of its own: the rattle of conveyor belts and robots assembling cars, the angry shouting of mobs running riot and the repetitive and gloomy beats of Detroit techno reflecting it. The sound is the spirit of a city. What makes the sound of Detroit so distinct?

The pianist of Victoria Tolstoy’s band, an established Swedish vocalists worldwide, together with his trio, presented the new album Heat on Friday 17th March at Munich’s jazz club Unterfahrt. Also a sideman in various quartets, duos, and most famously the Victoria Tolstoy Group, Jacob Karlzon is a gifted pianist with the ability to mix beats with a subtle melody and synthesized tunes. On his European tour Matchless had the chance to take part in his concert.
